At Columbia Climate Fund, we are committed to investing in scalable, high-impact climate solutions that drive real progress toward a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions economy. Our investment strategy is designed to support early-stage startups that will shape the new economy, and we aim to invest in them early to support their growth.

Target Industry: Cleantech for Net-Zero

We invest in companies whose business models actively reduce GHG emissions, recognizing its critical role in combating climate change and achieving the 1.5°C target. We focus on asset-light solutions that enable rapid, cost-effective scalability for widespread adoption.

Investment Criteria

Stage: Pre-seed startups
Investment Size: $50K–$100K per investment
Geographic Focus: U.S.
Funding Use: Prototype development, early product testing, initial revenue generation, and product finding market.

Collaborative Investment Approach

We co-invest alongside established VC funds, university VCs, angel syndicates, and accelerators. This collaborative approach ensures that early-stage climate-tech ventures receive the capital and support needed to validate market fit and scale their solutions.

Our investment focus begins with Columbia University-affiliated founders and expands to Ivy League networks and broader East Coast university ecosystems. Within our growing portfolio, we actively source deal flow through angel investors, accelerators, partner VC funds, and startups.
